Cookbooks and other exciting things

I have been asked by my good friend David Terrazas to work on a cookbook involving recipes from an old bakery here in Santa Cruz called Maddock's. I am both honored and excited to get started on the project. David arrived at my work last week with a box filled with a jumble of recipes. So here I am, excitedly sifting through these old weathered recipe cards, some with only ingredients and other with pages and pages of instruction. It's such a fascinating experience to peek inside a now over 50 year old bakery and read the baker's handwriting. The best part about the cards is the quantity! There are literally quarts of eggs and 4-5 lbs of flour! Not to worry, I will surely pare down the quantities to normal human level for those of you who want to bake them. My first recipe will be the lemon cookies! Wish me luck!

Hi- My family owned Maddocks for many years, and we'd love to see the cookbook once you're done with it. We actually recognized some of the handwriting on the recipe cards in the pic as being our moms.
Thanks

I worked at Maddock's long ago. I also recognized the handwriting of my former boss! I'd love to know the progress of this cookbook, and get a copy when it's done. How are you doing on it?

My grandfather (and later, my uncle and still later, my cousins)owned Maddock's Bakery - starting around 1954 or so.
Before that, he was a part owner of Cassou's Bakery (bread) in the East Bay, and both my father and uncle worked there. And before that, my grandfather was the head baker at Oroweat.

He was a master baker. In addition to his breads, you should try to make his danish pastry - it was the best.

From where did David Terrazas get these formulas/recipes? (Is he a relative I've never met?)

Magdalene and Rachel, unfortunately, the project was a few years ago and I have since left the Santa Cruz area for Austin, TX.

Harry, I'll have to ask David Terrazas how he came upon the reipes and if the project continues.

Thanks for the comments!

Thanks for asnwering Veronica.

How far along in the project did you get?

Also, I think it was "Maddox Bakery" and not "Maddock's Bakery."
